Sheep Close, Keswick, Cumbria

A striking and beautiful detached 1920s Lakeland residence of grand proportions with superb original features and stylish open plan kitchen conversion. The property is set on a large gated plot extending in excess of one and a half acres with a sweeping driveway, private gardens and magnificent fell views. Sheep Close is located in a highly desirable residential area on the outskirts of Keswick in the heart of the northern Lake District National Park. Sheep Close was built in the 1920s for the owner of a slate mine and has retained much of the charm and features of the era, including parquet flooring, original doors and an impressive solid wood staircase. Recent improvements include new windows and the creation of a large kitchen and entertaining area.

A grand pillared entrance with vestibule and a large cloakroom leads through to a spacious entrance hall with welcoming open fireplace and original galleried staircase. Off the entrance hall is a generous sitting room featuring bay windows, woodburner and a fitted oak bookcase, with sliding doors extending the space over eleven metres into the adjoining snug.

At the rear of the ground floor is an exceptional open plan dining kitchen, with bespoke fitted cabinetry, with two built in ovens and a steam oven. A large central island with Corian worktop gives plenty of space for food preparation with built in gas hob, sink and dishwasher. This is a very effective kitchen, designed for economy of movement. There are two areas for dining and relaxing, with a light filled glazed garden room opening out onto a large garden patio, for alfresco dining. The ground floor is completed by a spacious dining room with vaulted ceiling, utility room with fitted cabinets, a boiler room and a large glazed log room, which would also be suitable for indoor gardening.

On the first floor are four generous bedrooms, with one presently serving as a study with unique interior feature window opening out onto the galleried landing. The spacious master bedroom has lovely views of the garden, original fitted wardrobes and an ensuite shower room with ‘his and hers’ basins. The front bedroom has an original fitted wardrobe and a vanity area with exceptional views of the Skiddaw fell range.  The family bathroom has a walk-in shower, basin vanity unit and a luxurious jet spa bath.

Sheep Close stands on a magnificent mature plot of over one and a half acres, with breath taking views of Skiddaw and Latrigg fells to the front and wooded areas on three sides providing privacy. The main gardens are on the south-west side of the property with large lawns, Rhododendrons and box hedging.  A slate paved patio wraps around two sides of the property offering ample space for outdoor dining. The residence is approached via a sweeping driveway with turning circle and parking areas. There is a large wooden garage/workshop and plenty of space for additional outbuildings (subject to planning consents).

The property is located in the sought after Manor Brow area of Keswick, elevated above the town and overlooking the Skiddaw fell range. This iconic Lake District town is surrounded by dramatic scenery with a wealth of popular walks and tourist destinations on the doorstep. The town is located on the edge of Derwent water with marinas and cruise boats for leisure time on the lake.  There is a wide choice of shops, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities in the town and surrounding area, including the Lingholm Estate, Armathwaite Hall and The Lakes Distillery. Sheep Close is a well located with easy access to the Central Lakes via the nearby A591, with the A66 taking you to the M6 and Penrith with West Coast Main Line train station in around 20 minutes.
