An Eco House for the 21st Century
A unique opportunity to purchase a house designed by an architext to have a low carbon footprint, low running costs, low maintenance and low heating costs. It requires no oil or gas.
The house is warm and comfortable throughout the year. Heat is retained throughout the building due to a combination of the high level of insulation in the walls and roof, and triple glazed windows. In winter, heat radiates around the house from a soapstone wood-burning stove. A heat recovery system warms fresh air drawn into the house. Warm air from the under floor timed heating system in the bathroom and wet room is also distributed around the house.
A large porch provides passive solar gain to the interior. Solar panels heat the water for seven months of the year and takes the chill off the water during some days in the winter months requiring minimal use of the immersion heater.
The house is light and open with lounge, hall/dining room and a Nolte kitchen with ‘A’ rated appliances, utility room, front and back porches, bathroom and wet room.
There are three/four double bedrooms with the 4th bedroom presently acting as a study on the ground floor.
There is plenty of storage space. A 1/3rd of an acre is easily maintained as a no dig organic garden, and includes raised beds for vegetables and a pond.
The house is situated in Maulds Meaburn, a pretty conservation village south of Penrith. Good schools, good community, easy access to M6, West Coast Railway line and Carlisle/Settle railway to Leeds. It could be an ideal house and area for someone working from home.
